Plenty of Things to Do in Idaho Springs, Colorado in the Fall
Every season is the best when you’re in Idaho Springs, and that certainly includes fall! As the temperature begins to drop, you’ll enjoy warm drinks, a new set of adventures, and good fun all around. Get cozy or get crazy with all of the fun activities you’ll find in our little mountain town!
Peep That Leaf

The most recognizable thing about autumn is of course the beautiful changing leaves. And Colorado’s aspens definitely take the cake when it comes to leaf peeping. Enjoy the scenery in and around Idaho Springs. And while you’re traveling around, you may even get to experience the elk’s bugle – a Colorado must. There are some great scenic drives that you can take to get the best look at the bright reds, yellows, and oranges that these trees produce.

St. Mary’s Glacier
Drive up along Fall River Road and experience the colors of fall simply popping out against the backdrop of the majestic Rocky Mountains. If you’re feeling energized from the cool, fresh air, take a gander up the glacier and get a closer look at the Colorado nature on the hike.

Virginia Canyon Road (AKA the “Oh My Gawd” Road)
Looking for a little thrill while going leaf peeping? No worries – because of course, Idaho Springs has you covered. The Virginia Canyon Road is about 8 miles and runs along the side a mountain, making for some beautiful, steep views. Look out over the ranges, and see the bright changing leaves while on this exhilarating drive. But be careful – in the snow-y times, things can get a little rocky!
Events A-Plenty

As always, Idaho Springs has a ready supply of annual events that are fun for the whole family and help you get into the spirit of the season! Nothing says Colorado in the fall like festivals filled with foliage and fun! Relish in the fun and games, the autumn breeze, and the friends you’ll meet!
Dynamite Days

Kicking up leaves and starting fall off is Dynamite Days! This annual event celebrates Idaho Springs’ unique history and makes you wish you were a miner! Dynamite days is free and offers food and drinks (including beer), activities for kids and families, live music and entertainment, cook-offs, and more! You won’t want to miss this fall festival of fun!
Pumpkin Smash
It doesn’t get much more “fall” than the Pumpkin Smash, does it? And Idaho Springs lives by the phrase, “Go big or go home” – they certainly go big! Smash pumpkins to your delight with a variety of tools at your disposal. The fun doesn’t end, with food, drinks, raffles, and more to help you feel as fall as possible.
The Beer Hops as the Leaf Drops
There is something special about Colorado in the fall – and that something may be helped by the great beers of the season. With some fantastic breweries, Idaho Springs knows how to get on board with unique flavors and fun seasonal brews.

Tommyknocker Brewery
Specifically during the fall, Tommyknocker offers a limited release of a pumpkin-flavored beer. This is the pumpkin-spiced latte of adult drinks and we are sure you won’t want to miss out on this.
Westbound & Down Brewing Co

Westbound & Down doesn’t do any beers that are specifically catered to the autumn season, but has some ongoing brews that work perfectly with the warm and rich flavors of Colorado in the fall. For example, the Westbound Porter has hints of chocolate, molasses, toffee, and biscuit for a sweeter beer that makes you feel cozy.
The world – or should we says Idaho Springs – is your oyster when it comes to Colorado in the fall. We can’t wait to see the adventures you have in this new season. It seems like each season is better than the last!
