Make Idaho Springs Part of Your Colorado Spring Skiing Trip

Idaho Springs is probably not the first location that comes to mind when you think of Colorado spring skiing. Next time, instead of cruising past our charming mountain town, stop off on your way further into the mountains or even make it home base during a Colorado spring skiing trip. Idaho Springs has a prime location, great dining and shopping, and affordable rental shops.

Idaho Springs is an incredible location to base your Colorado spring skiing trip out of. This is especially true if you are also looking for proximity to Denver. You can travel to Denver International Airport from in less than an hour, so you’ll have a quick jaunt to town. The closest ski areas to Idaho Springs are Echo Mountain and Loveland Ski Area. Echo Mountain is a 30-minute drive up Squaw Pass and features incredible views and affordable night skiing. Loveland Ski Area is also located 30 minutes away. Loveland is a local’s mountain known for its Ski & Ride School and expert skiing on The Ridge. Larger areas with more resort amenities are also within striking distance. There are multiple options an hour to an hour and a half away in Summit and Eagle counties.

In the spring, we have plenty of warm and sunny days. If you prefer to take a day off from skiing and enjoy town, there’s plenty to do! The whole family will enjoy a tour of the historic Argo Mill & Tunnel. This site is a central figure in Colorado mining history. Miner Street has become a shopping destination. Visit stores such Margie’s Place for Colorado-themed gifts, The Spice & Tea Exchange for tasty delights, and a new bookstore, One Door Down.

Even if you will only be passing by on Interstate 70, Idaho Springs is a stopover worth making on your Colorado spring skiing trip. Gear rentals are much more affordable at local shops such as Maison De Ski. It’s also a great spot to split up the drive with a meal. You can choose options ranging from the more casual Big B’s Soup & Grilled Cheese to steak and wine at MTN Prime. This year, spend some time in Idaho Springs on your Colorado spring skiing trip!
