Currently in the planning stage, the Virginia Canyon park project is going to increase the number of hiking and biking trails in the area and connect with other developments such as the Clear Creek Greenway project. Virginia Canyon occupies 400 acres and is currently classified as “open space” – but not for long! Through the partnership of the Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) and the city of Idaho Springs, this area is slated to be the newest attraction for the town.

The Virginia Canyon open space is full of informal trails that may not be right for everyone and likely don’t measure up to standards. Because the area is already in such high demand for recreation, it makes perfect sense to create trails throughout that fit everyone’s speed. With plans to create trails for beginner, intermediate, and advanced hikers and bikers, you will be able to experience the nature and beauty of Clear Creek County in a way that suits you exactly.
The plans currently express a desire to keep the area as natural as possible – this will make the experience even more enjoyable. Even those who are less experienced or want a shorter route can enjoy the scenery that this great town has to offer.
